About the Department

The Centre for Women Studies was established in the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in 1980. Since its inception the Centre has been functioning effectively in accordance with the guidelines of the UGCthat is to promote awareness among women and men, of the need to develop and utilize women full potential as resources for national development in its economic, political and socio-cultural aspects; on the need to question existing values and of their social responsibilities to participate equally. The principle of gender equality is enshrined in the Indian Constitution in its Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles.


Goal and Vision

The Centre focuses on issues and needs of women in the present scenario of the society; and works for creating familiarization and sensitization forgender related questionsand women empowerment among more and more people. The Centre for Women Studies has a vision of Empowering women through Education and Training programmes, tapping their potential, and uplift their social status. The Centre strives to create a more equal world by empowering women to understand, recognize and exhibit their multi-dimensional roles. As the environment of social awareness and activism continues to change, the Centre provides a forum for exploring and understanding the ways gender shapes our world. It also challenges the way we see gender-based identities and experiences.



Best practices

The Centre for Women Studies conducts capacity building and awareness generating initiatives in the form of workshops, trainings, symposiums etc. The objective is to maximize participation and create leadership among the students, faculty and staff.It also provides the space for creating a vibrant and healthy debate among academicians, students, activists and those concerned with issues of gender sensitization, equality and equity.

    The Centre is located in beautiful premises with greenery and trees. There is a meeting room and one hall to organize workshops/trainingswith state of art audio visual and sound system. It has a specialized Library comprising many books on women/gender studies. There is availability of clean drinking water and restroom facilities.

      Other Highlights and Achievements

      The Centre has organized National Seminars, Symposia, Workshops and Refresher courses on Gender issues. It also works in close association with the National and State Commission for Women


      Internal Complaints Committee(ICC)

      As per University Notification of 16.9.1999, the Centre is the headquarter of Internal Complaints Committee for Prevention of sexual harassment at workplace which receives Complaints regarding any case related to Sexual Harassment in university campus. Every year a committee for Prevention of sexual harassment at workplace is constituted. The committee holds regular meetings for redressal of complaints received.


      Poster to raise awareness

      poster depicting the code of conduct to prevent sexual harassment at workplace was circulated by the Centre for Women Studies, University of Rajasthan. The objective was to generate awareness and to give information to the students, faculty and staff.It has been put up in prominent places at all the Hostels, Departments, Colleges, Centres and Administrative offices.


      Awareness Workshop

      the Centre regularly organizes awareness workshops and training in Departments, Colleges, Hostels and Administrative offices to raise awareness on Law related to prevention of sexual harassment of women at work place.

      through plays, Nukkad Natak, panel discussion, poetry sessions etc.

    • Promoting Entrepreneurship among Women An event to promote entrepreneurship among women alumni was organized on International Women’s Day on 6-7th March 2023.
    • An Event organized by the Centre on Baa and Bapu: Decoding Legacy on 22 October 2024.
